Tiffany offers complimentary on-site cleanings for any Tiffany & Co. products. During your cleanings, Tiffany associates will clean the item, check for worn-down metal, review the security of gemstones and ensure prongs have not been compromised from normal wear and tear. Tiffany also provides silver polishing services to customers for a fee. However, we recommend limiting the number of times you polish silver, as it wears away at the metal every time polishing is done. Pricing varies based on the size of the piece. We recommend cleaning and checking all Tiffany pieces (especially engagement rings and jewellery items worn often) every few months because of wear and usage, tarnished metal and loose prongs or stones.

  • How do I care for my gold and platinum jewellery?
    Professional Cleaning & Polishing
Professional cleanings are recommended as often as once a year. We encourage you to bring your Tiffany & Co. jewellery back to us for professional servicing.

Only polishing can remove scratches from gold and platinum. However, the patina of fine scratches that develops over time can add beauty to the jewellery and can reflect the journey a piece has taken. The polishing process removes metal and is only recommended to be carried out a few times over the life of the piece.

  • How do I care for my Tiffany & Co. leather goods?
The leather and materials used to craft your Tiffany merchandise are natural products sourced from the finest tanneries and fabric mills in the world. Slight imperfections and colour variations may occasionally appear, enhancing the beauty and uniqueness of your piece.

External elements such as excessive heat or moisture can affect the overall look of your accessory. Following proper care and storage guidelines will ensure the longevity of this exceptional product. When not in use, store your item in the protective dust bag provided.

    Calf and Grain Leather
Leather has inherent slight variations and imperfections, which are normal and add to the beauty of each piece. The grain leather is treated naturally, so colour and texture may change over time, darkening and softening to create an elegant patina. If scuffs or bruises occur, rub the affected area with a soft, dry white cloth.

    Patent Leather
To avoid colour transfer, do not rest patent accessories against one another. If leather becomes dirty, clean with a damp white cloth and a small amount of mild soap. For stains, oil-based spots and spills, follow the instructions below.

    Canvas
If necessary, spot-clean with a damp white cloth and a small amount of mild soap. As with any cotton product, if canvas is repeatedly exposed to direct sunlight, a softening of colour may occur. For stains, oil-based spots and spills, follow the instructions below.

    Special Considerations
Always test any cleaning method in a hidden area first. Never use saddle soap, oils, hairdryers, abrasive cleaners, furniture polish, varnish or ammonia.

    For Stains
Use a mild solution of soap and water (10 parts water to one part soap). Apply gently with a wet white cloth and then fully rinse. Let air dry.

    For Oil-Based Spots
Blot oil spots with a clean, dry white cloth. The spot should dissipate into the leather shortly. Do not apply water to the marks.

    For Other Spots and Spills
Immediately remove the spill or spot with a clean, absorbent white cloth or sponge. If stain persists, use plain lukewarm water to carefully clean the spot. Blot with a clean towel, then air dry.

    Suede
The rawness of suede makes it a unique but delicate material. If stain or colour transfers occur, use a soft brush to gently rub the affected area. Remove dry stains and marks from suede by gently rubbing a clean pencil eraser on the affected area. For wet stains, lay a paper towel on top of stain to absorb most of the liquid. Do not apply any kind of stain remover or other products.

    Haircalf
This is a delicate material. Please be aware that over time, balding may occur in high impact areas. It is difficult to prevent this, as it is entirely dependent on the individual animal skin. Try to protect your items from exposure to direct sunlight, sharp objects and excessive heat. To ensure longevity, be gentle with your haircalf item and store it in the protective dust bag provided when not in use.

Care should be exercised when cleaning haircalf. Use a damp white cloth and wipe with the hair, and not against the natural lay of the hair. For best results, avoid vigorous rubbing and do not use saddle soap or other leather cleaners.
  • How do I care for my Rubedo® jewellery?
    Rubedo® Jewellery

A unique Tiffany metal, Rubedo® captures the rose luminescence of dawn. Maintaining the beauty of this radiant metal is simple and with proper care, your Rubedo® metal designs can last for generations.

    Rubedo® Care

Like sterling silver, Rubedo® metal can tarnish, especially when exposed to salt air and products containing sulphur, such as rubber bands and some papers. To remove tarnish or fingerprints on Rubedo®, use Tiffany silver polish or another quality brand. Some “dip” polishes contain harsh chemicals and should be avoided. Electrolytic cleaning (aluminium foil, salt and baking soda in a water base) is not recommended.

Begin by using a soft cloth or sponge to apply the polish. Rub each piece gently but firmly lengthwise, using straight, even strokes. Wash in sudsy water, being sure to remove all the polish. Rinse well in warm water, dry thoroughly and buff gently with a soft cloth.

    Storing Rubedo®

Once cleaned and polished, Rubedo® metal must be kept and properly stored. Our Tiffany Blue® flannel bags will protect it from abrasion and offer a degree of tarnish prevention. Bags made of Pacific cloth are also very effective in preventing tarnish. If the climate is humid, place a small packet of demoisturising crystals (e.g., silica gel) inside the bag.
  • How do I care for my Tiffany & Co. sterling silver?
Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Jewellery

Tiffany only uses sterling silver, one of the most beautiful and lustrous of all metals. Sterling silver is a precious metal and may require cleaning from time to time. With proper care, your silver will retain its beauty and character for many generations to come.

The First Rule of Silver Care
Sterling silver tarnishes, especially when exposed to salt air and products containing sulphur, such as rubber bands and some papers. However, silver that is regularly used typically needs less care, so Tiffany strongly encourages you to wear your silver every day.

Once cleaned and polished, silver must be kept dry and properly stored. Our Tiffany Blue® flannel bags will protect it from abrasion and offer a degree of tarnish prevention. Bags made of Pacific cloth are also very effective in preventing tarnish.

    Special Considerations
An oxidised finish is the deliberate blackening of crevices in the ornamentation of a silver object to make its decorative details stand out more clearly. Take care as this finish can be removed by overzealous cleaning and polishing.

Tiffany & Co. Flatware and Hollowware
We recommend that you use your silver often. Frequently used silver requires the least amount of care and special attention and best develops the desired patina. Most silver, except for knives, may be placed in the dishwasher. It is important, however, to remove them before the drying cycle begins. It is better to wash your silver by hand in hot, sudsy water as soon as possible after use. Rinse well in clear hot water and hand-dry immediately and thoroughly. For silver that is tarnished, clean with a good quality silver polish and avoid "dip" polishes.

Storing Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Products
Silver should be kept absolutely dry. If your silver is used frequently, keep it away from excessive exposure to air and store it in a tarnish-proof cloth such as the flannel pouch provided with your Tiffany & Co. silver or a silver storage box.

Good storage boxes are lined with tarnish-proof fabric and have a separate space for each individual piece. If your climate is humid, place a small packet of desiccant crystals inside your storage area, whether it is a closed box or a flannel roll. Avoid contact with rubber bands or other rubber products as the sulphur in rubber causes tarnishing and corrosion.

  • How often should I get my jewellery cleaned?
Items worn regularly should be cleaned and checked every few months.

We recommend that you bring diamond jewellery to a Tiffany & Co. location for review at least once a year. This is especially important for engagement rings, but also applies to any regularly worn pieces.
  • How often should I polish my silver?
Polishing silver removes tarnish and adds shine. It should only be done a few times in the lifetime of a piece. Explore our FAQs to learn more.

Polishing silver is done to remove tarnish and shine silver pieces and should only be done a few times in the lifetime of a piece. This is because every time silver is polished, metal is removed from the piece.

Tiffany &Co provides professional polishing services to cleints for a fee. Polishing services are not done in store and take up to two weeks to complete.
Clients can drop items off at a nearby Tiffany location.
  • How should I clean my diamond ring?
For delicate gemstones, use a soft brush with a solution of mild dish soap and lukewarm water. Rinse well and dry with a clean, soft cloth.
  • How do I care for my Tiffany & Co. Bone China?
If cleaned and cared for properly, your Tiffany & Co. china can last a lifetime and look as beautiful as did the day you received it. Although very durable, china should be carefully handled to ensure its longevity. Overglazed surface decoration and gold are susceptible to fading.

Tiffany & Co. recommends that your bone china pieces are washed by hand. Some china can be placed in the dishwasher, but a non-abrasive detergent should be used and water temperature should not exceed 60 degrees.
  • How should I store & organize my jewellery?
How to store jewellery - Tips for organizing jewellery
We recommend you properly store jewelry when traveling, moving or in between uses. Discover tips for organizing and storing your Tiffany jewellery.
It is important to properly store jewellery when traveling, moving or at home in between uses. Keep jewellery in a storage box away from the elements whenever possible and separated to prevent pieces from becoming tangled or disarranged.
    Storing jewellery at home
If your jewellery is used frequently, avoid excessive exposure to air and store it in a tarnish-proof cloth, such as the flannel pouch provided with your Tiffany & Co. piece or a storage box. Good storage boxes are lined with tarnish-proof fabric and have a separate space for each individual piece.
    Packing jewellery when travelling
It is important to keep jewellery organized and protected while traveling. When traveling with several pieces, we recommend storing items in a box or bag with separate compartments. This will protect jewellery from becoming tangled or disarranged. Make sure items are away from clothing to prevent snags. Wear or carry any valuable pieces with you in case your luggage is lost.
    Packing jewellery for a move
When moving, keep all items in their permanent storage location. If you are using a jewellery box, wrap and package individual pieces and place back in the box. Once all pieces have been protected and stored, secure your jewellery box with moving materials, like you would with any other piece of furniture. View the Tiffany leather jewellery case for a protective storage option.
  • How do I care for my crystal?
Always space your crystal apart to avoid chipping, and use protective padding such as felt or foam. Line your shelves to help keep your pieces scratch-free.

Don't store crystal in a moisture-absorbing material such as fine wood shavings or newspaper for long periods of time.

Prolonged contact to moisture can leach the surface of crystal and cause hazing. Hazing, left unchecked, will permanently discolour your glass.
  • How do I care for my gemstone jewellery?
Certain precautions should be taken with all jewellery. However, some gemstones, as outlined in this section, require special care.

Take care to protect your jewellery from impact against hard surfaces and avoid contact with abrasive surfaces. Even a diamond can chip if hit with enough force or at just the right angle. Many stones such as amethyst, emerald, kunzite, opal, pearl, peridot, tanzanite and tourmaline are very delicate and easily scuffed. Enamel can also chip or scratch when struck.

Gemstones can scratch other gemstones and wear away at precious metals. Therefore, avoid stacking those rings and bracelets that would be vulnerable to such abrasion. Extreme temperatures, perfumes, cosmetics, ultrasonic cleaning and household chemicals can also damage jewellery.
  • How do I care for my pearl jewellery?
Fine cultured pearls with thick nacre layers will last for generations if cared for properly. Cultured pearls should be kept free of perfumes, cosmetics, perspiration and dirt. You may gently wipe cultured pearls with a slightly damp cloth. Tiffany & Co. cultured pearls are strung on pure silk with knots between each cultured pearl. Over time, the silk will stretch, weaken and become soiled. If you wear your cultured pearls regularly, we encourage you to have your cultured pearls cleaned and restrung annually.

If worn often, pearls should be cleaned and restrung professionally once a year. Between cleanings, wipe pearls gently with a damp cloth.

All Tiffany rough diamonds are sourced either directly from a known mine or from a supplier with a limited number of known mines. We encourage high standards in the mining industry to protect human rights and ecologically sensitive lands.

  • Which "C" is the most important?
The 4Cs — colour, clarity, cut and carat weight — are the globally accepted standards for assessing the quality of a diamond.

A diamond's quality depends on a combination of all the four "Cs." However, Tiffany & Co. believes the most critical of these is cut. More than any other factor, cut determines the brilliance, fire and overall beauty of your diamond.
To learn more about the 4 Cs, visit our Tiffany Guide to Diamonds

  • How can I check that my watch is still water resistant?
A system of seals ensures the water resistance of your watch. Such seals are placed under pressure constantly as well as being subjected to normal wear and tear. Periodic inspections of your watch’s water resistance allow one to determine whether the resistance is still adequate, and, if deemed necessary, to have the seals replaced. In normal conditions, you are recommended to have the water-resistance seals replaced once every two (2) years. (For quartz watches, this is usually the same length of time for battery replacement.) Standard maintenance includes the replacement of all seals and also of the battery (for quartz watches). If the watch worn is in frequent contact with water or regular sports activity, we recommend having the seals checked once a year. If your Tiffany water-resistant watch shows condensation under the glass, we advise you to immediately contact a Tiffany store, so as to proceed with a complete service. It is important to resolve this situation expeditiously in order to prevent damage to the watch’s components.
  • How do I care for my watch?
    Bracelets, Casings & Leather Straps
Avoid impacts and shocks to the watch. Avoid extreme temperature variations. Water resistance should be checked after any severe shock.
Avoid direct contact with detergents, solvents, fragrances and cosmetics, as they may damage the leather strap, the bracelet or the casing. Diligence in this regard will prevent premature aging of the material as well as discoloration.
For leather straps, avoid contact with water and constant moisture to prevent the deformation (and certain discoloration) of the leather. To prevent fading, keep them out of prolonged direct sunlight.
    Date-setting Mechanisms
Never adjust the date between nine o’clock (21:00) in the evening and three o’clock (03:00) in the morning, as this may cause damage to the date-setting mechanism.
    Extreme Temperatures
Avoid exposure to sudden changes in temperature (e.g., exposure to heat followed by immersion in cold water) or to extreme temperatures (e.g., above 60° C/140° F or below 0° C/32° F).
    Magnetic Fields
Most mechanical watches will be adversely affected by exposure to magnetic fields. If you own a mechanical (i.e., automatic movement) watch that you do not wear regularly, wind it at least once per month. This will slow the aging process of the oils and any lubricated components.
    Preventing Scratches
When wearing your watch avoid wearing jewellery on the same wrist. Keep watches well apart from each other to prevent them from getting scratched or scraped.
    Service & Repairs
During normal use, a watch is subjected to many environmental stressors, such as vibrations, impacts, dust, water, UV radiation, perspiration or temperature fluctuations. We should not omit to mention the mechanical strain placed on a movement designed to keep the time with absolute precision for every single day for years. We recommend that all watches have a regular maintenance check approximately every two (2) years and a full service approximately every five (5) years.
    Water Resistance
In watches, water resistance cannot be constantly guaranteed. Among other factors, it may be affected by the aging of the gaskets and/or accidental shocks. Water resistance should be tested at least every two (2) years at a Tiffany & Co. store or authorised service center. If the watch was subjected to a severe shock, we recommend having its resistance tested. Saunas, showers and baths should be absolutely avoided as hot water may damage the water-resistance seals.
Always rinse the watch in fresh water after use in salt water or a swimming pool. When immersed in water, the push pieces for the chronograph function of the watch should never be used.
  • How long is the warranty on my Tiffany watch?
Tiffany & Co. watches are covered by two-year limited warranty covering only material and manufacturing defects existing at the time of purchase.
Please keep the original receipt as proof of the date of purchase.
  • How often should I take my Tiffany watch in for servicing?
During normal use, a watch is subjected to many environmental stressors, such as vibrations, impacts, dust, water, UV radiation, perspiration or temperature fluctuations. We should not omit to mention the mechanical strain placed on a movement designed to keep the time with absolute precision every single day for years. We recommend that all watches have a regular maintenance check approximately every two (2) years and a full service approximately every five (5) years.
  • My watch, which is an old model, is damaged. Why does the warranty not apply?
Sometimes the lack of regular maintenance of a watch can result in accelerated deterioration of the case and other components. Unfortunately, this type of damage is not covered by the warranty because it cannot be construed as a manufacturing defect.
  • What is a magnetic field?
Magnetic fields exist all around us. Their strength depends on our specific environment. If strong enough, they may disturb the functioning of one’s watch. Quartz watches will be affected for the duration of the time spent in the magnetic field, and then go back to normal. Magnetism may disturb mechanical watches and interfere with their functioning by making the hair spring inside the movement stick. Avoiding areas with strong magnetic fields is recommended, especially for those wearing watches containing mechanical movements.

  • Why do I need to have my watch serviced regularly?
The movement of your watch needs to be checked and serviced at regular intervals. Changes in the viscosity of the lubricant, or its drying up, may create friction and affect the precision of the mechanism causing it to run faster, slower or stop completely. If noticeably fast or slow, the timepiece may need to be serviced. We recommend that you have your watch undergo a complete service once every five (5) years by the Tiffany After-Sales Service. If your watch has not been worn for several months, it may need to be worn for several days to restore its accuracy.
